"Philadelphia is the only city where you can experience the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day." Despite a love-hate relationship with hometown fans, Mike Schmidt established himself as the greatest power hitting third baseman of all-time. With 548 career round trippers and ten Gold Gloves over an eighteen-year career, the 1995 Hall of Famer has a firmly established hobby following. While copies of Schmidt’s 1973 Topps #615 rookie high number are readily available, securing ancillary collectibles such as unopened cello packs with his image atop is an incredibly difficult task. Graded Perfect 10 by GAI, this 1973 Topps Baseball Cello pack with the rookie of #615 Schmidt showing is the only such example judged by the third-party service. Upon review at the 2011 National Convention in Chicago, multiple vintage wax experts were noticeably impressed at the immaculate state of preservation of this wax cornerstone. Accurate centering, tightly wrapped and square corners along with crisp reverse folds are consistent with the investment-quality assessment. Card #645 Bob Locker is visible on the reverse.
